It’s Dallas Week! Coming off the bye, the Eagles look to regain momentum and extend their winning streak. With an NFC East rivalry set for Sunday Night Football, here are the crew’s predictions for the game:
ALEX WHITNEY (5-3)
The Eagles and Cowboys will renew their rivalry tonight on Sunday Night Football. The Cowboys are coming off a bad loss at home to the Tennessee Titans and the Eagles are coming off a bye. Golden Tate will make his debut tonight and it will be curious to see how the Eagles use him and how much of a difference he will make to the offense. The Birds’ offense was looking forward to having a healthy Darren Sproles this week, but news broke that he re-injured his hamstring and might miss the rest of the year. This is a big blow for the Eagles as they still are having trouble getting their running game going and were looking forward to Sproles’ return. The loss of Jalen Mills and Sidney Jones could make things interesting, but all in all, the Eagles and Carson Wentz should handle the Cowboys and Dak Prescott.
Final Prediction: Eagles 28, Cowboys 14
KEVIN MEANS (4-4)
Both the Eagles and the Cowboys are bringing in some new toys this week in Golden Tate and Amari Cooper. Coming off of the bye week will be huge for the Eagles as multiple players had ample time to recover from injuries including Lane Johnson. Sean Lee will be out for the Cowboys and I expect the Eagles to target rookie linebacker, Leighton Vander Esche specifically when he is in coverage. On defense for the Eagles, they will be down multiple cornerbacks in Jalen Mills and Sidney Jones. No one is going to be excited to see Corey Graham back at safety but we will get to see Avonte Maddox taking over slot duties against Cole Beasley. Dak Prescott will definitely look to take advantage of that and we will see how Maddox fairs. Overall, if the Eagles can manage to get off to a hot start on offense and an early lead, it’ll be very tough for the Cowboys to keep up as they do not have the firepower.
Final Prediction: Eagles 31, Cowboys 17
ERIC FENSTERMAKER (3-5)
The Eagles have the perfect storm brewing for Sunday’s matchup against the Cowboys. The Eagles utilized their bye week to get newly acquired Golden Tate acclimated to the offense, in addition to getting key players healthier. The Cowboys are coming off an embarrassing Monday night beatdown and now must travel to the Linc and deal with the crowd noise of the best fans in football. The Eagles are trending up and are close to retaking the divisional lead after a crucial victory against the Jaguars across the pond, and the Cowboys are shrouded in controversy and indecision from Jason Garrett to Dak Prescott. Dallas is 27th overall in total yards per game and 26th in points per game. With Sean Lee out, in addition to the lack of offensive firepower, the Eagles are going to roll over the lackluster Cowboys. Josh Adams will be looking to gain more touches in the Eagles running back committee and while the addition of Tate, Alshon Jeffery, and Nelson Agholor will be able to better space the field. Zach Ertz will also look to make a huge splash against the Cowboys and their weakened defense as the Eagles in their all-black uniforms will look to knock their divisional rivals deeper into the pit of misery. Philly Philly!
Final Prediction: Eagles 27, Cowboys 10
TYLER EDGERTON (2-6)
The Eagles come in well rested and ready to unleash their new toy in Golden Tate in hopes of matching their offensive point production from a year ago. The objective to win is to keep Ezekiel Elliott contained and make Dak Prescott throw as the Cowboys average just 188.4 passing yards per game. The red zone efficiency of the Eagles defense ranks 3rd in the league and should continue to be stellar even though they will be without Jalen Mills and Sidney Jones in the secondary. A big key for the Eagles offense is whether or not Lane Johnson can not only play but be effective as he tries to play with an MCL sprain against Cowboys defense who can get after the quarterback. In primetime, this is where we see Carson remind everyone he’s ready to be an MVP candidate once again. Three passing touchdowns and a pick-six will have the Eagles improving to 5-4 on the season.
Final Prediction: Eagles 30, Cowboys 20
