Eagles vs. Jets: Week Five Staff Predictions

It seems like it’s been forever since the Eagles have played a football game. With a few key players still nursing injuries, they will take on a banged-up Ney York Jets team who will be without their franchise quarterback once again. It’s time for a dominating win. Here are the crew’s predictions for the game:

Joe Fabiani  (3-1)

The Philadelphia Eagles head home to Lincoln Financial Field to take on an abysmal Jets team ranking dead-last in the NFL in passing yards per game as well as total offense. Philly should be able to get their passing game going as the Jets are giving up a total of 286.7 passing yards per game. I’m looking to see the Birds continue to be consistent in using a balanced attack of the run and pass. As we saw last week, their offense can be dominant when they are balanced. My only concern this week is Le’Veon Bell in the passing game. The Eagles linebackers have struggled against the pass so far this season. If they are able to shut down Bell early on, it should be an easy win.

Final Prediction: Eagles 31, Jets 13

Tyler Edgerton (1-3)

This is a statement game for the Eagles. The Jets come in missing Sam Darnold once again but also without stud linebacker C.J. Mosely and OL Kelechi Osemele. Now heading into the “second quarter” It’s time to separate themselves against the average teams. The road is tough ahead but good teams find ways to win, and that starts today with a dominant and back-to-back win. I see the Birds leading this game from start to finish, but the Jets may make it interesting early with a turnover as they have forced 7 already. Ball security will be important. Carson Wentz is going to have a big game today – 400 yards and 4 TDs, Eagles win by double digits, but don’t cover as 14-point favorites.

Final Prediction: Eagles 33, Jets 20

Eric Fenstermaker  (1-3)

The Eagles have baffled me all season long. I was confident in a major week one victory, but the Eagles barely escaped with a win. I was certain about wins weeks two and three, but the Eagles lost close match-ups there. The Packers seemed probable to win for many reasons last Thursday, yet the Eagles earned a major road victory. The moral of the story is: I have no idea what to expect. The Eagles are a great team, but if they cause themselves issues, they could be a bigger enemy to themselves than the team lining up against them. The Eagles need to get the run game going early and often, but more importantly, the Eagles secondary needs to shut down the Jets’ passing attack. Playing solid defense and pounding the run game should earn the Eagles a nice home victory over a struggling, winless Jets team.

Final Prediction: Eagles 27, Jets 14

Joey Kapusta  (1-3)

The Eagles are coming off an impressive road victory in Lambeau Field. Despite being absolutely decimated with injuries in the secondary, the Eagles were able to turn the season around and come out with the victory over Rodgers and the Packers.  Having ten days of rest before their match up with the Jets should really help this team despite all of its injuries.  The trio of Rasul Douglas, Sidney Jones, and Craig James will be responsible for stopping the Jets and their 32nd ranked offense.  There is no better time for this young secondary to bounce back than this Sunday.  I do not expect the Jets to put up much of a fight as they have questions at QB and several other positions.  The Eagles should have a great day offensively and hopefully provide the home crowd with a comfortable victory.  Look for Alshon Jeffrey and the Eagles offense to exploit a suspect secondary and Wentz to have another turnover-free game.  I expect this to be an “easy” win for the birds propelling them into a tough second quarter of the season.

Final Prediction: Eagles 27, Jets 13

Alex Whitney (1-3)

After a long layoff, the Eagles play the lowly Jets who are without Sam Darnold and CJ Mosley. The Eagles have to make sure that they put pressure on Luke Falk and to force turnovers. I’m still worried about the Eagles secondary, but I’m hoping this game will give them confidence. Put pressure on the QB, and win big. The fans need confidence that the Eagles are for real, this is the statement game. Eagles 30 Jets 14

Final Prediction: Eagles 30, Jets 14
