Eagles vs. Panthers Staff Predictions

The Eagles are riding high after a dominant win in their first divisional game of the year last week. Now returning home to face the Panthers on 10 days rest, will they continue their winning ways? Here are the crew’s predictions for the game:

The Panthers are a decent team but there isn’t a whole lot that they do very well. Keeping an eye on Christian McCaffrey should be their number one goal. After that, it is all about getting pressure on Cam Newtown and keeping him out of his comfort zone. Thomas Davis and Luke Kuechly are both in the upper-echelon of linebackers in the NFL right now but neither of them will be able to match up well with Zach Ertz. Wentz will find Ertz early and often and as the safeties start to creep in towards the middle of the field, he’ll hit em with a big play to Jeffery. Last week was the game when I predicted the Eagles to turn the corner and this is the week I’m predicting them to put their foot on the pedal and floor it.

Final Prediction: Eagles 32, Panthers 13

The Eagles come into today’s matchup flying high after feasting on the New York Giants. They will be up against a team that is run of the mill in almost every phase in the Carolina Panthers. Newton and company will look to take advantage of a banged up Eagles secondary. One guy to look at is Christian McCaffrey. He has all the makings of a three down runner and is extremely explosive in the passing game. If the Eagles defense can contain him it should be another sound win. Look for a big game from Zach Ertz as Carolina has allowed tight ends to light them up all season. Another thing to pay close attention to is both Eagles starting tackles come into this matchup a bit banged up. Carson may have to be creative in this one but I still believe the Eagles will come out on top.

Final Prediction: Eagles 31, Panthers 17

The Panthers are a team that the Eagles match-up well with. The Panthers have a physical passing game with led by big body receiver Devin Funchess and TE Greg Olsen. These two are players that the Eagles should not have a problem holding in check. Jalen Mills may have his best game of the season 1-on-1 with Funchess, which should help quiet the haters. The key for the Eagles on defense will be the play of Jordan Hicks and Nigel Bradham. These two will likely be counted on to play as a “spy” on QB Cam Newton, as well as being tasked with containing playmaking RB Christian McCaffery. I expect the combo of Hicks/Bradham to shut down McCaffery and Hicks is long overdue for his first INT of the season. On the offensive end, look for Alshon Jeffery to continue his dominance and Carson Wentz should be able to pick apart the weak secondary of the Panthers. Ultimately the Eagles will let Cam Newton get loose for a few runs and I expect him to get one rushing touchdown. However, the Eagles offense will be too much to handle for the Panthers and they will get ahead early and not look back.

Final Prediction: Eagles 35, Panthers 21

The Eagles will have a tough matchup this week going against a team with playoff aspirations. There are two players on the Panthers that are legitimate game changers: Luke Kuchley and Christian McCaffrey. Cam Newton does not scare me as he has struggled as of late against the Eagles, throwing 9 interceptions in the last three matchups. The focus on this game comes down to the third-ranked rush attack of the Panthers (139.4 ypg)vs. the Eagles defense who ranks second against the run (79.8 ypg). However, the Eagles offensively should be able to capitalize easily against a Panthers’ defense which ranks 31st in red zone efficiency. Expect Carson to carry the load once again as Eagles improve to 4-3.

Final Prediction: Eagles 30, Panthers 23
