Monster 4th Quarter leads Panthers to 21-17 victory over Eagles

PHILADELPHIA, PA –

The Panthers scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to erase a 17-point lead built by the Eagles.

Cam Newton lead the offense down the field with under three minutes left in the game and connected with Greg Olsen to take a 21-17 lead and never looked back. The Eagles built a 17-0 lead through the first three quarters but could not hold off the Panthers, falling to 3-4 on the season because of it.

Although Newton struggled mightily in the first half, he passed for over 200 yards in the final quarter. Carolina averaged 7.1 yards per carry against the Eagles 2nd ranked run defense in the league with much of the damage done in the final 10 minutes.

No play was bigger than a 4th down conversion from Newton to former Eagles Torrey Smith who picked up the 10 yards needed and then scampered for an additional 24 right before the two-minute warning. five plays later, Carolina found the end zone and never looked back. The 17-0 comeback was the Panthers biggest second-half deficit to overcome in a winning effort in franchise history.

As good as the Eagles offense looked in the first half of the game, they conservatively tried to waste time and allowed Carolina to sneak back into the game. Quarterback Carson Wentz ended with 310 passing yards but would certainly trade 119.6 QB rating for a win in this one.

With the loss, the Eagles fall to 3-4 on the season and will now head to London next week to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars who are also struggling. A bye week follows this matchup.

Philadelphia will wait for the Cowboys and Redskins to face off later today while the Giants play tomorrow night. With a Washington win, the Eagles would trail by 1.5 games in the NFC East.
