PHILADELPHIA, PA –
Eagles defense ran out of steam in the second half as Saints survive early 14-point deficit, advance to the NFC Championship game with a 20-14 win.
Injuries and talent level finally revealed its ugly face to the Eagles as their season came to a close in New Orleans against the top team in the NFL. After a perfect start, the Eagles were held scoreless in the final three-quarters of the game.
Nick Foles started the divisional round matchup 5/5 for 65 yards and a TD on the opening drive after Cre’Von LeBlanc intercepted Saints QB Drew Brees on the first play of the game. He finished just 13/26 for 136 yards as the offense struggled to move the ball for a majority of the game.
After the interception by Nick Foles to Zach Ertz, the #Eagles ran just 26 plays on offense for 81 total yards. They collected 151 yards and 2 TDs on their first two possessions.

The Eagles attempted to stem the tide of injuries after losing Brandon Brooks, Jason Peters, Michael Bennett, Rasul Douglas, and Fletcher Cox during the game but could just not get into a rhythm and make enough plays to build momentum. Even still, after a missed field goal by Saints kicker Will Lutz, Philadelphia’s offense took over with 3 minutes to play.
Right before the two-minute warning as the Eagles were in prime position to possibly take the lead but a throw from Foles slipped through the hands of Alshon Jeffery and right into the lap of cornerback Marshon Lattimore to essentially seal the game for New Orleans.
The Eagles will head home disappointed but should be proud of the way they bounced back from a 4-6 start to the season. The first playoff loss in the Doug Pederson era will have the Saints facing off against the Rams in the NFC Championship game.
