The Eagles look to get back in the win column with Carson Wentz set to make his 2018 debut in a little over 9 months from tearing up his knee. Here are the crew’s predictions for the game:
ALEX WHITNEY (1-1)
The week we have been waiting for, the return of Carson Wentz. Eagles fans are ecstatic to finally have their main man behind center, a clear upgrade over Nick Foles. Wentz will have to tame his adrenaline early in the game and I expect him to sail a few passes. The Colts come into the matchup a little beat-up after beating the Redskins last weekend. I don’t expect them to be able to tame an upgraded Eagles offense with the return of Wentz and the addition of Jordan Matthews. If Matthews is able to catch a few passes in the slot and open some opportunities for Zach Ertz and Nelson Agholor, the Birds will be able to put up some points. Eagles win 27-17.
Final Prediction: Eagles 27, Colts 17
KEVIN MEANS (0-2)
The Eagles are going to do this week, what we all expected them to do last week. They are going to win their battles in the trenches and force Andrew Luck and the Colt’s offense to make mistakes. Carson Wentz is finally back but don’t expect perfection from him. I predict him to be more like the Carson Wentz we saw during his rookie season. He will make mistakes this week but also show flashes of last year. Both quarterbacks will throw two interceptions but the Eagles defense will bounce back from last week and shut it down. Eagles win relatively easy in this one and improve to two and one.
Final Prediction: Eagles 28, Colts 17
TYLER EDGERTON (0-2)
The team will be excited to have their leader back, but are aiming to get healthy in other areas, mainly the offensive weapons around Wentz. Without Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles, the Eagles may struggle to run the ball (especially in rainy conditions) forcing Carson to make plays and not necessarily ease into the season. The Colts, on the other hand, are banged up as well. The Eagles defense should respond well this week coming off a bad outing on the road. I expect the Eagles to do the opposite of the first two weeks and look good out of the shoot and hang on in the second half.
Final Prediction: Eagles 24, Colts 17
TYLER QUILL (0-2)
The prodigal son will return this week as Carson Wentz makes his first start of 2018. While he will be without top weapons in Alshon Jeffery, Jay Ajayi, and Darren Sproles, Wentz’ return should breathe life into an offense looking to find its groove in Week 3. The Eagles have their share of injuries and the Colts are right there with them. Andrew Luck will also be without a couple key offensive weapons in RB Marlon Mack and TE Jack Doyle. I assume Wentz will have some rust early on, so the Eagles will rely on their defense to get them going early in this game. The Eagles defensive line should wreck havoc on the Andrew Luck and be able to cause a few turnovers (I’m predicting 2 INTs and 1 fumble recovery for the Eagles defense). Wentz will find his groove coming out of halftime and lead the Eagles to victory as the Colts offense struggles to get anything going. Wentz shakes the early season jitters and the Eagles win by two scores.
Final Prediction: Eagles 24, Colts 10
