The Eagles will hit their home turf at Lincoln Financial Field for the first time since January where they squared off against the Vikings in the NFC Championship game. While the Eagles are shorthanded at the Quarterback position, there are plenty of areas to focus on.
Many of the veteran starters will skip this game as it is the first dress rehearsal for both the Eagles and Steelers, but there are a few position battles and players to key in on.
Leading the pack is Sidney Jones and Dallas Goedert, two highly touted youngsters the Eagles will be waiting to break out at some point this season. Other notable areas to watch out for are QB Nate Sudfeld and the running back committee.
Sudfeld is in his second year with the Eagles and is looking to turn some heads as the opportunity presents itself tonight without Wentz and Foles playing. If he plays well, he could be either traded to be the backup for another team or even become the backup for the Eagles should Foles be traded at some point this season.
Last year, Sudfeld saw action in week 17 against the Dallas Cowboys and went 19/23 for 134 yards with a 90.9 passer rating.
All running backs (other than Ajayi) will likely all see some sort of playing time. Those to watch include Donnel Pumphrey, Matt Jones, and an undrafted free agent Josh Adams out of Notre Dame who has been generating a lot of buzz in camp.
Finally, take a look at punter Cameron Johnston who is the lead guy for the job right now. The Eagles pride themselves on special teams and field position and this could be a spot the Eagles explore on other teams if they do not like what they see with Donnie Jones retiring.
Tune in to NBC10 at 7 pm for the first of four preseason games before the Eagles open the season against the Falcons on Thursday, September 6th.
