PHILADELPHIA, PA –
After an astounding victory over the Los Angeles Rams, the Philadelphia Eagles look to add another victory against the Houston Texans. The Texans need a victory to secure the AFC South, while the Eagles need a win to help secure a playoff berth. Here’s what to watch for this Sunday:
1 – Alshon Jeffery: Will Jeffery the Giant come up in a big way back-to-back weeks? Jeffery hauled in eight catches for 160 yards including a long 50-yard pass. Nick Foles and Jeffery seemed to have great chemistry and the pair connected multiple times throughout the contest. The Eagles will need that deep explosion and consistency in the pass game when they take on a tough defense like the Texans.
2 – Eagles rushing attack: All signs pointed to Josh Adams being the main weapon rushing for the Eagles against the Rams; however, it was Wendell Smallwood who stole the show. Smallwood finished with 10 carries for 48 yards and 2 touchdowns. Adams finished with 15 carries for 28 yards and a touchdown. The Eagles run game will allow Foles to feel less pressure and will take some of the burden of the offense off his shoulder. Look for the run game to try to develop quickly.
3 – Turnover differential: The Eagles defense played a major role in last week’s victory. They forced two fumbles and an interception and this helped get the offense back on the field and keep the Rams high powered offense on the bench. The Texans boast a great offense too; can the Eagles force them to make mistakes and turn it over?
4 – Texans potent offense: The Texans offense may be weaker than the Rams, but not by much. Deshaun Watson is a gifted young quarterback, who can make plays running and throwing the football downfield. Lamar Miller, who is questionable for the contest, looks to break the 1,000 yard mark shortly with 917 rushing yards on the year. DeAndre Hopkins is an insanely talented wide receiver who possesses great speed in addition to his great catching and vertical leap ability. The Eagles defense has been banged up this season and will need another great performance to limit this explosive unit.
5 – What are you made of: This is the most crucial game of the season for both teams. The Texans have played astounding this season, but with just two weeks left, have still not secured their division. They need this victory to lock up their spot and secure their playoff destiny. The Eagles are playing like a team possessed. After being left for dead by some following their loss against the Cowboys, the Eagles dawned their ski masks and “stole” a victory from the Rams. Can they keep their thievery going and nab enough wins to reach the playoffs?
