PHILADELPHIA, PA –
Sitting at 2-2 early in the season, the Eagles will face the Vikings during FOX NFL’s “Game of the Week.” Here’s our game preview on what to watch tomorrow:
1: Revenge – The Minnesota Vikings will come into this game looking for payback from last years NFC Championship game. The Eagles dominated that game on their way to a 38-7 victory sending the Eagles to Super Bowl 52, while the Vikings had to watch from home as the Eagles won the Super Bowl in their own stadium! Minnesota’s players will have an extra pep in their step for this one.
2: Familiar Foe – The Eagles have seen a lot of new Vikings QB Kirk Cousins due to his time with the Washington Redskins. Cousins has been rather efficient against the Eagles in his career, with a TD-INT ratio of 16-5 and a 99.7 QB Rating. While the Eagles have seen a lot of Cousins, they have not seen him with the type of weapons he has in Minnesota. Cousins has Stefon Diggs, Adam Theilin, Kyle Rudolph and RB Dalvin Cook. These explosive players could cause issues for an Eagles defense which has struggled so far in 2018.
3. Where have the defenses gone? – Speaking of defense struggling, the Eagles aren’t the only defense in this matchup trying to find their way. Minnesota has struggled to find their identity on the field as well. At this time last season, both the Eagles and Vikings had two of the top defenses in the league. This year, however, neither team has been able to dominate on the defensive side. Both teams are led by dominant defensive lines that have yet to take over in 2018. We will see if this week 5 matchup is the game that sparks either defense.
4: Next Man Up – The Eagles continue to get hit with the injury bug. Added to the injury report this week, DE Derek Barnett will miss his weeks and with a shoulder injury. This will open up a game day spot for rookie DE Josh Sweat. It will be interesting to see how Sweat gets used in the DLine rotation in his first NFL game. The Eagles will also continue to miss RB Darren Sproles, out with a hamstring injury. Fellow RB Corey Clement is questionable heading into Sunday with a calf injury. This leaves the Eagles with only two “healthy” running backs in Wendell Smallwood and Josh Adams. Jay Ajayi will continue to play through a back injury but is one bad hit away from being out again.
5: Changing of the Guard – After using a rotation at LG early last season, the Eagles settled into Stefan Wisniewski as their starter. ‘Wiz’ opened this year as the starter. However, he will be replaced Sunday by Isaac Seumalo (per NJ.com). The Eagles offensive line has struggled to gel this season. They are hoping the shake-up at LG will be the spark needed to solidly the OLine unit. They need to get t together quick to help protect their QB, Carson Wentz.
