2018 Player Projections: RB Edition

ESPN has released their early 2018 projections for the upcoming season after last week’s conclusion of the Fantasy Football Rankings Summitt. Let’s take a look at what the experts are projecting for the Philadelphia Eagles running backs this season:

Jay Ajayi

ESPN projects Ajayi to be the lead back for the Eagles in what should be a running back carousel based on the matchup. Surprisingly, the experts have him falling just shy of the 1,000-yard mark. If Ajayi is able to get to that milestone, the Eagles may look to extend him for the future as he finished with 208 carries for 873 yards last season. Last year, Ajayi was the 6th ranked RB heading into the season.

  • 2018 Position Rank: 26th   Rush: 233 att / 995 yards / 5.5 TDs   Pass: 26 rec / 198 yds / 1 TD

Darren Sproles

Sproles is back on a one-year deal after missing most of last year after suffering two injuries in week 3 of 2017. However, ESPN projects Sproles to be the better option in fantasy over undrafted-free-agent standout Corey Clement this upcoming season. Last year he was projected as the 46th best RB option. We recently put out our own 2018 expectations for Sproles as well.

  • 2018 Position Rank: 48th   Rush: 68 att / 305 yards / 2TDs   Pass: 33 rec / 269 yds / 1 TD

Corey Clement

Clement’s projected production is similar to that of Sproles but he seems to be a guy with a lot of upside. After rushing 74 times as a rookie, we saw his emergence as a weapon in the postseason. A pre-season ranking of 65th is not a bad start, but expect CC to end up higher on the list, especially if Ajayi or Sproles were to get injured. For now, ESPN compares him to the likes of CJ Prosise, Johnathan Stewart, and Spencer Ware.

  • 2018 Position Rank: 65th   Rush: 64 att / 263 yards / 2 TDs   Pass: 13 rec / 127 yds / 1 TD

BONUS: UDFA RB Josh Adams (RB105) is expected to make a limited contribution according to ESPN while Donnel Pumphrey, Kenjon Barner, Wendell Smallwood are not.
