Darren Sproles is back! Sproles and the Eagles agreed to a one-year contract worth $1.415 million with $1 million in guarantees (according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero). His season was cut short last year when he tore his ACL and broke his arm on the same play against the Giants in Week 3.
Although Sproles, 35, missed out on playing in the Super Bowl win against the Patriots, he will be looked at to be a valuable contributor to the Eagles offense. Sproles will most likely be the main punt returner while sharing the backfield with Jay Ajayi and Corey Clement.
Last season the Eagles carried Ajayi, LeGarrette Blount, Clement, and Kenjon Barner into the Super Bowl. This season the RBs could be Ajayi, Clement, UDFA Josh Adams and Sproles which still could be a formidable group. The elusive back could line up along with Ajayi or Clement in the backfield to put defenses on edge.
Similarly to Barner last season, Sproles could get a few carries a game but will most likely be an aerial threat to either Carson Wentz or Nick Foles and be a force in the punt return game. If Sproles can contribute around 50 carries for 220 or so yards and 40 receptions for around 350 yards with 4 total touchdowns, he would prove to be a valuable asset in the RB carousel for the Eagles.
More to come.
